One of the questions I get asked the most is:
"What should I look for when evaluating a sales opportunity?"
Whether you're trying to break into tech sales, move from SDR to AE, Mid-Market AE to Enterprise AE, or simply looking for your next company... choosing the right organization is one of the most important career decisions you'll make.
A lot of people get caught up in compensation, the company logo, whether it's remote, or who has the highest OTE. Those things certainly matter, but they're rarely the reason you'll have a successful career.
The right company won't just give you another job... it can completely change the trajectory of your career.
Below are some of the biggest things I personally look for before I would ever accept a sales role.
Product-Market Fit
This is probably the biggest one for me.
Does the company solve a real problem? Do customers actually need the product, or is it simply a nice-to-have?
Personally, I want to work for a company that sells a product businesses must buy. Things like cloud infrastructure, databases, observability, AI infrastructure, security & compliance, revenue operations, etc.
